Abstract

Dental implants and associated restorations have become a very popular and predictable treatment modality for tooth replacement. However, despite the high survival rates, implant restorations present with complications which can affect the quality of life and satisfaction of our patients. These complications can be expensive to treat and repair and increase the stress levels of the dental team. Time plays a significant role in the way mechanical, biologic and aesthetic complications manifest, and both dentists and patients rarely address the aftercare and maintenance needs of implant dentistry. This presentation will review the main prosthodontic complications occurring with implant restorations focusing on fixed partial dentures (FPDs) and will suggest strategies to allow for increased predictability.

Lecture objectives:

1. Review the literature on prosthodontic complications involving implant supported FPDs.
2. Identify the risk factors and suggest strategies to reduce the incidence of complications.
3. Showcase management strategies to treat complications when they occur.
