This presentation will discuss a simplified guide of collaboration between the general dental practitioner / restorative dentist and the specialist periodontist for the interdisciplinary treatment of periodontal and implant patients. The contribution of the periodontist and its importance for the final success of complex treatment plans will be discussed with several case examples.

However, the success is equally depended on good communication, and establishment of common targets between general practitioner and specialist that won’t be limited in the therapeutic but also in the financial level.

The role of general practitioner should not be limited in a “dry referral process” but should be expanded with active contribution all treatment stages offering not only professional satisfaction but also financial benefit for the general practitioner.
