Proactive dental care-IN! Reactive dental care-OUT

Abstract
Despite great achievements in oral health of populations globally, dental caries is still a major oral health problem in most industrialized countries, affecting 60-90% of schoolchildren, 40-70% of orthodontically treated patients and the vast majority of adults. As the famous quote by Benjamin Franklin states: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, preventive dentistry is a cornerstone in the dental profession and plays prominent roles in any successful dental practice.
In this lecture we will learn:
• Why dentistry should not be only reactive in managing dental caries but a proactive with prevention
• Why enamel decalcifications called white spot lesions are one of the most common complications for orthodontic patients
• How can we benefit from the efficacy of a clinically well-proven fluoride varnish in order to implement a proactive approach for the well-being of our (dental and ortho) patients and for our dental practice success
